[Jfrost6] [Phorosians] Whitelist Application
Posted by: Jfrost6 - 10-06-2018, 07:48 PM - Forum: Approved Whitelist Applications - Replies (1)

About You

What is your Byond key?
- Jfrost6

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
- A week or so

What are the names of your better-known characters?
- Jordyn Felicia

About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?

- Phorosians

How does playing an alien differ from playing a human, and how will you represent this ingame?

- Memory loss and physical atrophy, I might not be able to do physically intensive tasks or might have to take extensive notes to remember what i'm doing.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
- Because it could be interesting to play as a damaged human from a phoron incident not recalling the trauma they faced.

What are some example names for the alien species?

- Knives, Bonesaw, and some normal human names if they keep that memory

Summarize what you know about the species.

- They are humans affected by PRS which is caused by extensive exposure to phoron, they have weaker bodies, need a voidsuit in oxygenated environments, and breathe phoron. They also have memory loss from the PRS which often means they lose their name or origin.

Provide an example character bio for your xeno character.
- They seems distant from what you can tell through their voidsuit, you can see a blurred almost charred corpse like face through their helmet. They seem forgetful, always typing away at their PDA what they're doing at the moment, saying aloud their current action like it will help them remember.

BYOND Key: DimasW
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: UTC +2
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Dimas Window
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Around July 2017
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: 26.08.2018 At launch

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have):

I am a staff member on Apollo gaming. I have goten my role as a moderator at 09.2017 and I am administrator to this day.

Due to a lack of updates has Apollo died and went from an average 20 players to 0.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are):

I am on no server banned.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?:

 • The aviability for the europian time zone makes it very difficult for me to play on the server. I willing to help to fix this leak and moderate the server on that time.
 • Another problem I have enouctert were unanswerd ahelps. The most ahelps I have send out about a player issue or a gameplay issue weren't replied to. From my experince as a staff member we had to always answer every ahelp and I am going to continue that.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I am going to reply saying that I am handling the situation. Next I will observe the situation for a moment while reading their notes before contacting the attacker. I will be asking their intentions and what admin has given them permission. Continuing I will ask fellow staff if he already ahelped the raid on a starter faction. If no reply is given in time I will just remind them to limit their raid to sabotage and infiltration only. If the fellow staff replies that he hasn't ahelped then I will warn them for not doing so, still remind them to limit their raid and write it down their notes. All damage excessive damage will be reseaonbly reverted.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I will inform him that I am handling the situation and remind them that this will take some time as I will have to read through the logs to confirm the lack of roleplay. Depending on the level of roleplay I will be reading I may have to ban the ahelper for a week for lieing, count it as enough or lacking. This part is certainly difficult as it requires a perspective view were I may still need help with to fit the servers perspective. Next I will be contacting fellow staff if he was given permission. If no answer is given I will ask the killer which then I can confirm on a later time. If no admin has given him permission then I will warn him for it and I may additionaly give a three days ban if no roleplay was involved. Notes will be filled lastly.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: I will inform that I am taking a look at the situation. I will check for potential ckeys on sabotaged airalarms or doors and check the log for any ckey related bombing. I will ask staff members if a raid was happening on that location. If I have enough evidence to confirm a suspect I will confront them, asking why they did it. Depending if it was a valid raid and how severe the damage is It may end up from nothing to a warning or up to a week ban if huge critical and colleteral damage was coused. It will be noted down and any wrong doing of the attacker reverted to a reasonable amount.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: Checking the server logs are always a good method to get a good picture of a situation combined with checking attack logs and fingerprints.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: I will teleport them to a safe location were they are able to interact with fellow people to ask for help or spend time with. A rejuvination is also given ofcourse. If any engineers are aviable I will inform them to set a high priority to fix the cryo room or I would use build mode to fix the cryo room.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: I will inform the person that I will be observing the said person and watch their behavior. Additionaly I will tell them to gather all evidence and take it to make a forum report as admin helps shouldn't be used that rapidly.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: I will paralzy the griefer and send him another message to click on my name to send a message back. If they reply and say that they are new I will be happy to guide them. If no further reply is given, disconnected or replies in a naughty manner I will permantly ban them with a link to appeal the ban.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: I will answer it by telling him that he has to select the duct tape and click on the piece of paper. Additionaly I will remind him that he should rather use the OOC channel or LOOC for gameplay advice in the future.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: I would check the Discord using the search function to potentialy find the name, ask publicly or find remnants he can provide me as information. As he stated before he was killed so I would spawn a new lace with his ckey in it in a location that can be found easily. I will then ask for further advice on this topic from fellow staff as I am not completly sure how to handle it properly.

EXTRA:

I want to apologise for my lack of grammar as I know it myself is horrible. I hope this wont influence the view of my application too much and I am still looking forward at improving my spelling. I would be glad to hear a reply and I am motivated to help and even learn from you guys.

Sincearly,
Dimas Wiedemann

My long Long list of ideas and recommendations (I'm so sorry)
Posted by: The_Revanchist - 10-04-2018, 10:36 PM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (1)

I will rate each category by its general difficulty to implement from GREEN -> ORANGE -> RED -> PURPLE.

I also only have a basic mechanical understanding of how these systems work, I can definitely discuss these and their flaws with other people though, so if you see a problem, I can help find ways to change or fix them from a mechanical perspective. Code is on the devs though

Some of these are based on discussions I've heard from devs, and will be marked

-=Intent System=-
Planned for Change

For my new idea for a dumbed down intent system (without accounting for skills), the best I can personally come up with is a 3 button system. Two buttons, for the sake of keeping it simple, will be Neutral and Aggressive, name pending. These will not be dissimilar to Help and Harm as it is now. A third button would basically be a toggle from Interaction to Grapple, name also pending. My idea to fit in with this, would be to convert the Disarm mechanic to become more similar to aggressively grabbing someone. It would be a weighted timer based system, weights being a persons active intent (Aggressive being the biggest bonus as you'd have a firmer grip, disarm the biggest penalty as you're looking to grab something else).

The timer would also be a time limit on how long you have to resist before you are disarmed and if applicable, the attacker could possibly instantly retrieve the item instead of it dropping to the ground (Two empty hands would increase success and give a high chance to retrieve the item, also weighted by target's skills, direction from you when disarm starts, intents, etc etc). This would also allow room for intervention with the risk of hitting your comrade if you say fire and he is facing you, also punishing the attacker if he tries to disarm a group of people.

-=Combat | 6 Weeks to 2 Months =- Planned for Change
I havent put a lot of thought into this yet, but if skills are taken into account, you could set intents to be as follows

-Aggressive Interaction/Harm = Speed penalty to prevent running around an enemy making it a spam war essentially, blocks players passing, increased damage than help intent if a weapon such as a knife is present (Make sure scalpels dont gouge out peoples eyes though for surgery...) and can either have a higher chance to dodge attacks or takes marginally less damage

-Neutral Interaction/Help = Average speed to allow free movement, most actions with basic medical equipment and such should commence surgery or other non-aggressive actions if the target is on a table or similar. Can pass through other players and has a decreased chance to dodge attacks

-Aggresive Grapple/Grab = Average to marginal increased speed to allow quick engagement, has extremely low chance to dodge melee attacks but high chance to dodge projectile attacks. Depending on the size of the object in hand (Is there an object size system in baycode?) They may either hold onto the object while grabbing or drop it. Small weapons may provide speed/success bonus on grabbing a target (Knives, scalpels, small guns etc).

-Neutral Grapple/Disarm = Moderate speed increase to allow quick engagement, has extremely low chance to dodge projectiles but a moderately higher chance to dodge melee attacks. Either allow to disarm with items in hand and disallow immediate item retrieval with a penalty to succeed, or immediately drop all items in hands and allow around a 15%-60% chance to retrieve based on skills, targets intent an direction compared to the attacker when grapple begins. Trying to disarm a melee weapon such as a stun baton, knife or similar has an extremely low chance to succeed and if lost, will damage the attacker or stun them.

-=Gateway=-

For a few days now, I've been pondering uses, balances and reasons to have a functioning gateway system, some of which would tie in with another system recommendation for RnD improvements.

-Implementation = I believe if gateways were implemented as an rare alien device that connects to already existing gateways. Maybe either on a daily, bi-weekly or weekly rotation of planets or randomly generated coordinates that a machine can generate over time. I suggest the first option so you dont have to worry about running out of planets or stations in a week, unless thats part of the time it takes to generate coordinates. It could also be possible after discovering certain hidden areas/secrets on several planets you can begin very costly construction of your own gateways.

-Mining = Certain astral bodies including Planets, Moons, Asteroids or maybe abandoned (read as: Inhabited by ALIIEEENNNSSSS) supply depots can be a source for business to claim and beginning mining operations as a new revenue. I think as a balance you must be a licensed business to engage in mining operations, otherwise you could be fined or have your mining assets seized.

-Research (Can me implemented over time) = As mentioned earlier, new discoveries could lead to new exotic research into weapons, life support, energy generation or other technologies. For weapons I have a new system I think could be intergrated as a lego-based design system where you have to match compatible parts in a cosmetic frame to create a functioning design(read as: Doesnt explode after 2 shots) that can then be manufactured.

-Combat = If special events such as an alien hive, mind altering/toxic/poisonous atmospheres were added to gateway exploration, this would create a true purpose for military or security contracting that I think is very needed. Small skirmishes could also be held against other businesses for control over the area.

-COLONIZATION!!! = Even if a planet isnt completely habitable, domes or terra-forming could be used to create corporate colonies on prospect worlds, still thinking about this one

-=Sectors (Tactical Sectors?)=- Unlikely to be fully implemented, maybe if Unity Station becomes popular and codebases get moved
(I will be refering to each seperate 35x35 grid as a grid and each point of that grid as a sector)
As I am sure everybody on the coding team is aware, Baycode comes pre-equipped with a sector based movement system in space. The main reason its not currently used is the inherent incompatibility with multiple shuttles which current incorporate transit zones to move, on top of other issues

-Implementation = My basic understanding of how this could work is first, any departing shuttle would first have to do as it does now, and transit to a new zone. This zone would probably just be titled Deep Space and act as a staging point to allow for piloting through sectors as it would be detached from whatever station it was docked to. You could then fly to the same sector as another station, and transit from deep space to the new station. This is similar to how shuttles move to planets from the main ship on Baystation

-Trade Routes = With the current way sector-based hazards work, you could create pre-arranged gateways/corridors between the points where maps connect, as you go from grid to grid. Meteors from the original code would work well to discourage travel into this hazards, but other solutions could be created as well.

-Planets/Colonization/Mining = I believe if you were to create a pre-arranged set of planets as well, this could both fit in with the gateway system, or as an independent function with gateways maybe leading to extremely far away planets (So far ship travel would be impossible). Anyways, for some planets, it would be possible to surround them in hazards such as ion storms, meteors or others, depending on the value of the planet. Alien life, colonies and such would also be possible... GROUND BASED SHIPYARDS, ANYONE!?

-Blockades = Self explanatory for why, blocking trade routes or access to certain stations, planets etc. Could probably add a module/console on ships that creates an event in that sector forcing any shuttle passing by to automatically transit to the ship's docking port. This also ties in with my next idea for more clarification. Might have trouble with multiple shuttles however

-Ship Classes = This would be a pretty big thing to work on, as the way I foresee it, would involve incorporation with the previously mentioned planetary shipyards (For the 3rd, largest class). The first class would stay as it is now, a shuttle, freighter, whatever you wish to call it. The second class would be similar to that of a corvette, slightly larger, more firepower and could probably also fit into the same docking ports, worst case, maybe a new docking level? These could likely be multi-deck, the main deck and the cargo/engineering/whatever else the ship requires. Just a thought there though. The third class I think would be best suited as a planetary shipyard required ship, being too large to even dock with most space-docks, unless the dock is heavily specialized to do so. These could possibly be very expensive cruisers with 2-3 decks, 1-2 docks for docking small shuttles (One for the cruisers personal shuttle for docking, cargo, personnel etc, one for capturing enemy shuttles in a blockade. Maybe a single large one for a corvette MAYBE? Depends how big they are)

-Side Notes = Larger ships would probably need a way to self destruct securely, as well as a method of other shuttles to board it, probably with other external docking ports. Unless players are forced to use pre-approved layouts (Another idea, companies can design layouts, get them approved IC or OOC with admins before they can be built/bought by other companies).

Cruisers would require ways to assault other cruisers, again, likely by sending a boarding party unless a method is devised to have 2 ships in the same Z-Level side by side. This would make shield generators useful and other weapons (Kinetic Accelerators lobbing explosives, boarding troops, etc)

I am working on a better way to implement the skill system into Persistence so that it can work with jobs, gradual skill gain/loss, other systems, etc

Stay tuned!

BYOND Key:
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: Lately between 1:00 to 7:00 UTC.
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Agnew Greenward, Steve Martin, and Royce Khan.
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Early months of 2014.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: Since late December of 2017.

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): No.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): I was banned from a Russian server for being a native English speaker, forgot the server name.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: Not enough admins to cover all timezones, usually I see times where only Brawler is online for long periods, and they are usually busy IC.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Committing large killing or damage against a station isn't allowed without good IC reason, I'd observe them, and tell them to limit the damage they are doing if they don't have good cause.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Even though it's likely in such a situation the killer didn't exactly act out incorrectly in such a revenge kill scenario, I'd still check the logs of before and during the player's killing to determine whether that is true.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: Well, first I'd teleport to their station to see if its been blown up and vented, I would then attempt to check the logs for the explosion and who triggered it, assuming that there was one. I'd then likely arrange a voice-chat or other meeting between myself and either Brawler or Eyes about a rollback or some other compensation, if it were determined to be grief.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: Assuming that there are no logs, or record of the incident, I'd be unable to make a reliable account to base any investigation around. I'd have to ask another admin for assistance, and see how anyone's story may change from their previous account.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: I'd first determine why the cryo room has been vented in the first place, then I'd proceed from there once context has been established. Assuming that the cryo room was vented due to poor design, or something else unintentional, I'd tell them to return to the lobby. Again assuming, since the question establishes no context, that this is the only cryo room on the server, I'd attempt to fix it so the entire server doesn't die on log-in.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: I'd tell them to stop ahelping, or I will mute them.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: I would admin freeze them, and attempt to contact them again. I'd keep them frozen like this until I get a response, if they log off instead I'd permaban them.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: I'd tell them they hit the duct tape on the paper, and then put it on a wall. I'd also mention that it may be bugged on restart, and that they should use a notice board instead.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: Considering that no one can back up the claim that their character existed, I can assume that they were quite relatively new. I still wouldn't be able to help them, however, as I don't have access to server files like the host to allow them to recreate it. When someone such as Brawler is available, I'd ask them if they'd be able to retrieve their character file.

  EmmaJ's Trialadmin
Posted by: EmmaJ - 10-04-2018, 01:40 AM - Forum: Approved - No Replies

BYOND Key: EmmaJ
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: GMT -5 (Houston, Texas)
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Franklin Brevil Only for now, Emma Jones in the past.
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: My first account was created Nov 11, 2014.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: 1423 days.

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): Mentor on Hippie Station for a few months. Owner of a server awhile back but it was a lowpop test server for custom things.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): Hippie Station, abusive discord use in NSFW channel, a collaborative google drive of NSFW content was then filled with *explicit* things and I was subjected to a Discord, Server, and Forums ban.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: Rules are unclear and from time to time not followed because of such. Sometimes there's just a simple lack of staff when it comes to the server and not enough people to respond to the situations that arise. I want to do my best to help define some more clear rules that encourage a happy community that'll be able to develop naturally.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: This being apart of an IC incident yet also against the current rules, I would continue to allow this person to RP it out, however I would Aghost him to monitor whether of not his behaviors are extreme or over the top. If found to be so, question him directly about specific things found to be in question. If he's found to be intentionally breaking the rules and the starter faction, he'll face being cryo'd and receive a day ban for breaking the rules; on top of this, they will have to suffer the actions of their consequences IC. If not, let him go about his business or perhaps tell him to reel it in a little bit and not go 'overboard'

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I would check on the event in the logs, for the current incident, to make sure some form of fluid RP was happening in game and not a straight murder. While also extending the search to cover the previous encounters, if possible. I would want to make sure that no meta grudge is being held and that both characters are acting to a reasonable level in game. If the stories check out and it's indeed caused by a reaction with a cause, then I may go as far as to make sure the murdered person isn't lost forever somehow.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: An immediate aghost to observe the current actions of this person, monitoring whether or not they are indeed playing fairly to an extent. Most of these situations do end up being either very aggressive player on player griefing over time. If observed to be that I would prevent any more actions from this person by talking with them, while following up with a quick in-depth interrogation to see if his actions were in any way justified or perhaps were unprovoked.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: First things first would be to check the logs to see what specifically happened that I could prove, while also taking into consideration who I got each individual story from as their might be a group playing that may be twisting crucial details to a specific side. After observing the logs of the incident I would ask the involved persons whether or not they have any more information that they may have not told me or remembered. After careful consideration for the multiple aspects of the incident I would then make my decision on what had happened and what the truth was in both parts.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: If this is the main arrivals area on the station I would of course try and assist them by not allowing their character to immediately die. It would be unfair not only to them but any new players joining the server. If this is a personal cryo room, and the problem did in fact come from a malfunction that was their own fault in infrastructure. I would simply try and make sure they are known to be dead through IC means and trying my best to assist them with returning in a reasonable manner.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: I would strongly inform this person that he is abusing a help line meant for reporting people who have actually broke rules. If a form of mute is able to be done (To prevent him from future ahelps for a set time) I would proceed to do so; but only after a clear warning. If after some time this behavior persists I would proceed with a kick to let them know i'm serious and explain that if this abuse keeps up or if they take 'matters' into their own hands against the person they are reporting; Then I would proceed to ban them for a set amount of time.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: This player is obviously present at keyboard and is ruining the station intentionally, I would freeze them immediately and then ask them to respond to me within a certain (short) amount of time. If they fail to do so they will be kicked as a warning to end the behavior. If they rejoin and continue a permanent ban would be issued after a conclusion from other available admins that a perma would be the way to go. If they leave after being frozen then I would also proceed with a ban but at most a week ban.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: A quick explanation that admin helps should be used not for an in game mechanic question. I'd push them to the discord for such questions. Only if you have a serious problem is present you should contact an /admin/. I would recommend them to the discord server or to OOC (If it's not muted [Image: tongue.png])

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: As an admin I can't fully bring a character back without any evidence they even existed, unless i know they were alive before. If this is found to be a game mechanics issue i'd try to help them recover the body of course. if not, I would recommend to them that starting a new character would be the best course of action and through in game means I may show a *little* mercy and maybe throw them some new clothes and dosh. - They know less about society as they were born in a lab without parents, often being used for manual labour or research. I will represent this ingame by not giving my vat grown characters much of a childhood or at least a regular childhood and all the quirks that would come with it.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?

- It's something different from a human while not being too exotic. I don't want to stray too far from humans and I think Vat grown humans could be interesting to roleplay.

What are some example names for the alien species?

- Vash, Knives, Domina, Tesla, Chronica

Summarize what you know about the species.

- They are basically human except they are grown in a Vat, they do not have an appendix and have paler skin than humans. They have less genetic disabilities but have weaker metabolism.

Provide an example character bio for your xeno character.
- She has pale white skin and bares thin arms and legs nearly bordering on anorexic with moderate muscle mass. Her hair is rather fluffy and wavy although very light blonde. Her eyes are pale green and distant looking in contrast to her attitude, she seems to care a lot about everyone around her and tries to diffuse any situation that could go hostile without harming anyone. Many see her as an annoyance though as she is rather nosey when she thinks she can help.

About You

What is your Byond key?
Garrian

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
3-4 weeks.

What are the names of your better-known characters?
John Darke.

About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?
Skrell.

How does playing an alien differ from playing a human, and how will you represent this ingame?
Aliens are vastly outnumbered. They may have to deal with xenophobia, strange concepts that are hard to understand, and continually seek understanding on these strange beings.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
I have a specific character idea, specifically a Skrell that studies the correlation between business and silicon technology and the control there of. Would be traveling somewhat often, and possibly be interested in the studies and use of silicon technology, as limited as it is.

What are some example names for the alien species?
Nechtil'Qil Kartii
Jectil'Ol Telaro
Secura'Sqo Gahari

BYOND Key: Garrian
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: 0400-0800
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: John Darke, Alastair Knight
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Off and on for 6 years
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: 3-4 weeks

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): No.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): Goonstation possibly? No idea why.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: Certain coding problems, and lack of certain structure on NT as a starting station.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Get general information about what is happening, see if it is outside of general faction raid objectives, otherwise simply explain to deal with the problem ICly.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Tell the killer that they should have obtained admin permission before killing, but tell the ahelper that it is ICly appropriate.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: Correlate with any other reports, determine age of the character/account on Persistence (New meaning more likely to be a griefer), get reasoning from the supposed griefer, correlate any decisions and info with other admins.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: Check any admin logs that may correlate any of the stories, and correlate with any other admins interviews or experiences.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: Determine if they had a chance to escape properly, and why the cryo room was vented. If it seems appropriate, and correlate that they did not die in another fashion, heal and teleport them to a safe room nearby, or have them wait to be healed until the room is repaired.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: State that they have not broken any rules, suggest they check with the server rules to state what they believe is being broken, and state that it is otherwise an IC problem.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: If they cause damage to players or extreme vandalism, venting a room, destroying expensive equipment, etc, kick the player, ban if they return and continue. If not, allow it to be dealt with ICly.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: Explain how, in detail. If I didn't know, I'd have them ask in discord or OOC if available.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: Attempt to locate the lace and timing, otherwise attempt to load their last character save and move the player to it.

So this is going to be a collection of things that I believe, in my own biased mind, could make the server a more enjoyable place for you folks.

1. Temporary ownership of a location: As someone who modded, admined and played on a lot of Garrysmod Nutscript / Clockwork / OA servers I can tell you this, permanent locations for most players are a really bad idea unless you can guarantee they will be on or that their friends will get on regularly. Factions avoid this because they are so large that any single time, there is always someone present in the owned area.

From what I've found, giving people temporary ownership of a location works a lot better - which you can think of in terms of the temporary access passes that can be handed out by departments on Regular SS13 servers. Essentially it is an agreement that the player can use a location for X amount of time as indicated on their pass or some countdown, like for X amount of hours / days or something like that. After that time passes, they lose access to the location and someone else can request use of it - such as an office, store or other type of non faction area.

In regards to a business, this means they need to pack up - put their stuff away in a locker and make sure their stuff is dealt with - with a timer around 24 hours, they are able to possibly jump on the next day to finalize anything or just renew their use of the store by resetting the timer. This would work best by having to contact the director or secretary. My personal preference for a timer would be 1-3 days, which is almost in line with what you have and if they fail to renew lets say after 3 days then that's an ideal circumstance. Even if you wanted to go the permenant ownership route, you still need to establish a set amount of time someone can not be playing on the server and a timer is one way to keep that in check, even if you have to it for a full week.

2. Snowball: Realistically that starting area is going to actually kill at least a quarter of your potential playerbase, the impatient kind - which aren't always bad players. Not everyone will wait to get service, honestly I don't know how you'd magic that away but ideally you don't want them waiting very long. When a new player joins they are trying to figure out if they want to play on your server, give them a reason to.

3. Resources: I wanted to mention if you want to go more the route of people rising in power and to give more purpose to the money that's traded around, what you can do is create costs where previously there were none. Essentially confront them with a problem that needs to be solved, like payments for certain medical procedures and food items. Problems are always better then tools, because it gives existing tools purpose and creates clear pathways for people to follow. Like a street rat trying to pull a big score so they can afford to get their sister the meds they desperately need.

I also haven't been able to find a way to do invoicing towards a specific account other then sending it to the station's account, which seems like something you'd want to have if you want trading to be a more common occurrence.

4. Factions: This one I know nothing about in terms of your server, but just because I've seen this fail many times, I know that player factions have a tendency to fracture the playerbase outwards. Best explained as a mile long but an inch deep. Too many groups, not enough players - simple as that, keep it in check or it will destroy you. I've seen it so many times and it's especially painful on low pop.

I'll add more stuff later. This isn't like me waving my fists around going - RAGH I DONT LIKE THIS SERVER. It's actually really cool so far and I like the people on it, normally if I don't like a place I'll quit. I like this place and so I'm here posting as a way to help out. Apologies for any assumptions I make, I'm still learning about the server as I go.

  Brainstorming for Earth Lore
Posted by: Elianabeth - 09-16-2018, 08:18 PM - Forum: Lore Suggestions - No Replies

Here's the ideas I have for writing Earth Lore so far, if anyone has any other ideas they might like to see, please post in this thread. If these ideas are well received, I can write up this information in more detail, and then move it onto the wiki.

Bullet-points so far:

 • o Sanctuaries that preserve cloned animals from Earth’s history

 • o The wealthy live on land, nearer to the capital, the more wealthy

 • o Earth culture focuses on preserving older cultures, extreme traditionalism, outdated practices

 • o Underwater packed cities house those who can’t afford to live on land, these people are often sent to war to keep their homes by SolGov, known as ‘Atlantic Warriors’, try to flaunt wealth due to insecurity (Old money vs. New Money distinction).

 • o Space station ring around Earth has more middle class, those who wish to one day move to Earth-proper but can’t afford it, passage to Earth granted if one proves themselves in the war (Similar to Roman Citizenship through war)

 • o Historical monuments preserved on planet, religious worship of history(?), re-enactments and romanticization of older Earth lifestyles through fashion, art, ect

 • o Senate of SolGov lives in Earth’s capital, leading power of SolGov

 • o Higher-class wanting to abandon Earth considered a grave insult, possibly religious slight

 • o VR-Museums that allow you to experience any moment in Earth’s past, some people get too absorbed in these fantasies and choose to do business solely in VR

 • o Countries merged to form seven main districts

 • o Slaved lawed cyborgs using the brains of terrorists and war criminals (?)
