What is your Byond key?
Nappist

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
A few months probably?

What are the names of your better-known characters?
Garret Miffs

What alien species are you applying for?
Human, fellow pod creature.

About The Species
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xuCn8ux2gbs

How does playing an alien differ from playing a tenetacle Eldritch creature, and how will you represent this ingame?
By doing the average human normal things by eating, drinking, walking, and interacting with other humans as a normally socialized human without psychopath tendencies.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
Their petty and endless wars around mates and pointless resource generation is endlessly fascinating, as is the bizarre/counterproductive social interactions.

What are some example names for the alien species?
Thomas Edison, Richard Cheese, Mr. Gray

Summarize what you know about the species.
They are bipedal and breathe primarily oxygen, and posses only two of each limb.

Provide an example character bio for your xeno character.
This is JOHN DOE. He is a NORMAL HUMAN BEING. He enjoys NORMAL THINGS like EATING PROCESSED ORGANIC PRODUCTS FROM OTHER ANIMALS and FEEDING LESSER CREATURES in SPECIFICALLY TENDED ENCLOSURES.
He definitely DOES NOT enjoy DEVOURING HIS FELLOW HUMANS.

About You

What is your Byond key?
Draxtheros

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
I began when I saw the announcement on 8/26 that the server was playable again, though I didn't really begin playing until about a week or so after that, giving the server time to sort itself out.

What are the names of your better-known characters?
Eld Folke

About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?
The Unathi

How does playing an alien differ from playing a human, and how will you represent this in game?
Playing a different species brings with it a host of challenges. A well written alien is more than just a human, but with x feature, or y quirk. To roleplay one requires you to put yourself into a completely different mindset. The station is built almost entirely with humans in mind, so an alien species may have some physiological hurdles to overcome just in day to day life. How does a particular character tackle these differences, minor to major? How do they feel about being potentially alone in a sea of alien faces? The list goes on, and it's all something that requires constant, active thought.

As for how I will represent this in game, Unathi are a cunning people bearing strong, forthright personalities. An example character might push himself above and beyond what is asked of him. Pride drives him to attempt perfection in his work, while practicality and a desire to be paid his worth pushes him to leverage his position, become well liked and trusted enough to raise his position and his worth within the company (and of course, his pay to match). This is not just work, to him. Every interaction is an opportunity to build better business. With enough work, and the right connections, he might be able to stake out his own profitable piece of the Rim.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
In general, it's because I find roleplaying a different species to be interesting. It forces me to think fundamentally differently to bring their mannerisms and character to life. I enjoy the challenge they present, and in the end feel like it allows me to enrich the experience of others in a better, more creative way. Why Unathi specifically? When I read their lore, it immediately put a character in my mind. They fit the setting of the server (that being of businesses competing for superiority out on the edges of space) very well.

What are some example names for the alien species?
Sshresa Kalas, Rozsur Greklas, Riaal Iiskriani

Summarize what you know about the species.
Unathi are a species of traders. Almost nothing is out of the question when it comes to obtaining a good deal. While an Unathi might be the friendliest face in the room, trying to cheat them may lead the silver tongued snake to more drastic measures. They don't take such slights laying down, and trying to give them a raw deal might just have been a declaration of war, economic or otherwise. Treat them right, however, and you might just have the a very loyal and profitable business partner on your hands. Even when removed from direct dealings in a matter of trade, they can be very discomforted by what they perceive as a poor deal. They take great pride in their work and themselves, even if they are not always the most personally open with strangers.

Provide an example character bio for your xeno character.
Riaal came from humble beginnings, born to a pair of space borne Unathi workers aboard a failing space station. His formative years were spent watching the station grow and evolve around him as the pair of engineers worked day and night to bring the orbital scrapheap into some semblance of a working orbital station. After some years, their work was considered done, and it was time to pack up and move on, selling their skills to some other business in need. Jobs came and went, as did people, all the while he was watching and learning, taking mental notes on how his parents negotiated with strangers, learning their trade, and most importantly, learning from their mistakes. When he finally came of age to strike off on his own, he gathered what meager possessions and knowledge he had and set out to seek an apprenticeship. His parents and his schooling had taught him how to a job well, but that was not enough. He didn't want to just wander around, job to job, he'd have workers to do that for him. A business to call his own, one whose services were sought across the galaxy... But he has to start here, at the bottom. He knew he was worth more than they'd give him, and that ground against every fiber of his being, but with blunt honesty and hard work he'd prove his worth, gain their trust, and with time, their proper business.

  SolGov vs Terrans
Posted by: Nappist - 09-15-2018, 06:54 AM - Forum: Lore Suggestions - Replies (1)

In no particular order of ideas;
Terrans had better bluespace technology and more ships due to resources and alien availability
SolGov capitalized on law-slaved borg by ripping out Terran brains and shoving them into cyborgs, forcing them to regurgitate information, then sending them back to the front lines;
!FUN! atrocities on both sides;
Eventual drawing of lines with no neutral parties allowed.
Gearing up for actual genocide of one side or the other;
Mad-max style postapocalyptic worlds created either because of bombing and/or actual resources being stripped from the planet in heavy duty mining ships that can chew through asteroid belts and planets;
Ruined cyberpunk places.

About You

What is your Byond key?
Stiigma

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
I've been playing for roughly two and a half weeks.

What are the names of your better-known characters?
Filipe Reis and Cy Ingles

About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?
The Unathi!

How does playing an alien differ from playing a human, and how will you represent this ingame?
Playing the Unathi will enable me to RP better in a way that I can more easily excuse any language barrier issues
(I'm not a native english speaker.) by that i can play it out in a sense that misunderstanding happens cross species. I also like
how the average mindset of a Unathi is on both society, economics and their temperament.

Why do you want to play as the alien species?
This species is very intriguing and attracted to business.

What are some example names for the alien species?
Dreekus Gnarssis. Ichanti Druuqarzu

Summarize what you know about the species.
The unathi are a very friendly yet wary creatures. They are very driven by good business, often being able to tell what is and
what isn't a good deal, and feel VERY unconfortable when they know it isn't. They are a lizard-like species that come from a
planet that is mostly comprised of water. They value mostly Family, Clan, business and the faction they serve, being very loyal
workers.

Provide an example character bio for your xeno character.
Ichanti Druuqarzu suffers from short-term amnesia, not remembering what events led to his wake in the frontier. Inchanti worked for a small starter business of engineering contractors that mainly helped on the establishment of stations nearby uncharted areas of the galaxy. A good business
no matter the risks that come with it. Working as an engineer in these remote areas was not a problem while the payroll was very appealing, but not
when unknown entities threatened to compromise the constructions of space structures from time to time. One day, Ichanti was doing his job as usual,
in zero kPa and zero G environment putting down grilles when suddenly the structure begins to collapse into a silent explosion coming down from the
mainframe. What happened next are mere glimpses of his memory as it turns out he was possibly hit by a steel frame from the debris, and sent away
into space. Ichanti has golden brown eyes and dark orange scales.

BYOND Key: MyToesAreBlue
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: I play around 7pm to 11pm most days.
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Darsh Keller, the ever hated Laura/Lauran Brown.
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: 4-5(?) years.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: Around 6 months.

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): Was a staff member on Absolution/Archangel for quite awhile.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): No.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: There is a lack of information for most players, especially new players. Lots of players, even experience players, do not understand some of our unique systems. I think this is especially damaging for nonshitler players that join during hub hours but just don't understand what to do. I will continue to make minor edits to the wiki and answer questions.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Unless it were an approved sabotage or infiltration, I would admin PM the raiders, or whoever is leading the raiders, and tell them to just leave the NT z-levels. If it were bad enough, I would make an OOC announcement that the raid wasn't acceptable. If the raiders were acting out of malice, I would most likely ban them until appeal.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I would say this is mostly an IC issue if the killer had properly roleplayed it, especially if they had previously asked admins to retaliate against the kidnapper. If he had not roleplayed it properly, or hadn't asked admins about it, I would probably let them off with a warning unless it resulted in the loss or destruction of a lace.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: If logs/fingerprints/the accused testimony didn't point otherwise, I would most likely ban the griefer until appeal. As for the station itself, if the damaged merited admin intervention I would fix it as an admin.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: I would check logs, if a player was trustworthy enough to trust on the incident I would go with their story if it made sense and matched with logs, if not I would have to make my own decision with logs.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: Admin heal and teleport, as has been done for me in the past, unless it was depressurized for an actually important IC incident such as an approved mutiny.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: I would explain it was an IC issue and should be handled as such. If they continued, I would most likely mute them.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: A ban until appeal.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: I would link them our Discord, a wonderful place to ask questions. Mostly because I've never actually managed to get my hands on duct tape on this server yet.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: Would honestly just go to Eyes/John/Brawler about this. If it were true, it would be a bug and I am not a code person.

  Unathi Name Lore
Posted by: Laughing Rabbit - 09-12-2018, 04:27 PM - Forum: Lore Suggestions - No Replies

As stated by Unathi Lore maintainer Jhorrin, further work was required on how Unathi is named, so let me offer my suggestion.

Although, according to the server's Unathi lore have formed into companies and sub companies, I suggest that their names remain a reference to the clan system that is the predecessor and influence to the modern Unathi companies (company clans).

Their first name is their "class" or/and a direct or abstract reference to their own personal Morales in how they achieve or follow their clan's core beliefs.

The second is their "soul" name. It is a sound or call/cry of an infant Unathi that only that unathi can produce correctly and others can only crudely mimic.

Their last is that name of their clan. The clan's name is a direct of abstract reference to a core belief of that clan.

I suggest that it was or now is common place that both one's "Clan" and "class" is personally choosen by that Unathi and thus a Unathi name is picked by them to define who they are and what they believe in.

As far as their language I suggest that Unathi have many different languages, perhaps if there is a feature for it (is there) they have a common unathi tongue. Though, as far as their names the true meaning of the words may only be known by those within their social circle/clan/what have you.
So, this allows the player to design their own name and it's meaning.

In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?:Time zone UTC -6, I usually play any time between 9 PM UTC to 3 AM UTC
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Past: Sara Dylan, some other Sara because I'm not creative; Current: Bert Azaria, Serena White
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Four(?) years. I started one year before Facepunch station stopped being a thing.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: About six months

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): No.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): No.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: I think the current staff lack manpower in both adminning and developing, which leads to decreased morale and productivity on the staff team. I'd hope to resolve it right now, by joining the admin team(as well as making minor dev and wiki contributions) to take a little bit of pressure off the current staff.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A:As per the faction rules, no one is allowed to raid starter stations. I would immediately bwoink(!) the leader of this raid, if any, and ask them if they had a very good IC reason to raid the station. If they didn't have a very good reason, or if there wasn't a real leader, I would ask via OOC or admin announcement that everyone involved in combat on both sides immediately cease, and that the raiders go back to their faction HQ. Anyone who continued fighting would be bwoinked directly, and then banned for a day or two if they continue after that. If there was excessive damage to the station or its people, I would ask a higher ranking admin for permission to revert the damage or rejuv deceased personnel.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A:I would say that in this case that neither player had been completely in the right to do what they did, but if the killer had properly roleplayed out their reasoning, how they planned it, why they didn't go to security or something, I would say it's an IC issue. I would also issue a warning to the killer regardless for not having ahelped before murdering the first player(an ahelp I would've probably accepted). Alternatively, if the killer was stupid about it and didn't really try to RP through it at all, or just walked up in the middle of the hallway and started toolboxing the other guy, I probably would've issued a bannu and potentially given a rejuv to the first player, depending on the exact context.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A:I would check the logs to confirm this was the case, bwoink(!) the person who did it and ask for their side of the story. If they gave an answer that didn't really make a lot of sense and didn't seem like an accident, I  would probably fix the breach myself with admin magic, heal anyone who got hurt, and probably punish the griefer with a bannu depending on how severe the damage was, how much malice was involved, and if anyone died.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A:Checking combat logs to see if they refute or back up any of the stories. More interviews, if it's feasible. If neither of those aid me in finding out the truth I would probably just use my own judgement to determine what the truth is based on how trustworthy each player is, their note history, and the way they generally act. I would avoid any extremely harsh punishments in the wake of this judgment if I cannot be certain of the truth.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A:I would check the logs to see if there was anything to point to this being an act of grief or offline raiding or the like. If it was, I would ban the person or persons responsible and then give the affected individual a rejuv. If it was not, I would tell the person that it's an IC issue and sometimes this stuff just happens, and that they have to deal with it IC even though it isn't their fault.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A:I would say that everything the other player had done up to that point was within the rules, and that they had to resolve this issue In Character. If they seemed particularly upset about the issue or the other player had a history of deliberately antagonizing others, I would politely ask him to stop such behavior. Otherwise I would ask that the first person handle it IC and if they continue to adminhelp about it, I would warn them and then mute them from ahelps if it was still an issue.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A:I would sleep them, bwoink(!) them once more time explaining how to properly respond to ahelps, give them another minute to respond while they're admin slept, and then if they continue to not respond I would give them a permaban but ask them to appeal on the forums to explain the situation. The rationale would be either they're a person who just came on to grief and tide, and a timed ban would be ineffective, or they were a new player who legitimately had trouble understanding the game and thus it would be more effective to handle the issue via a discussion on the forums.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A:I would tell them to click the paper with the tape, then inform them that if they have basic questions, they should try asking in LOOC before ahelping. If it turns out I was wrong, and that's not how you put duct tape on a piece of paper, I would begin frantically code diving and asking other admins trying to find out.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A:I would politely explain that because there's no evidence that this actually happened, there isn't much I could do. If possible, I would give them the benefit of the doubt and free the name slot of their former character so they could remake.

  Major Ass - Admin Application

BYOND Key:Major Ass
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday - UTC:12:00PM-1AM Wednesday/Friday/Saturday - I have class and cant be on unless its a slow day I wont be on most of the time.
Names of your current and past Persistent characters:Lewis Field, Detective.
How long have you been playing Space Station 13:5 Years
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13:2 Days

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have):In Colonial marines when it first started years ago with CaptainEnglish running it. After multiple host changes I resigned from staff because I didn't agree with what direction the server was going. This happened years ago. The colonial marines server now doesn't retain any of the old staff and so the few that can recognize me are no longer active staff there.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are):Just got allowed probation on a permaban I had for almost a year in Colonial marines for posting porn link in chat. I claimed it was an accident but they have a zero tolerance policy and do not believe me.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?:The server is under staffed. I'm love the mechanics and the goal of a free flowing persistent world. I want to see the server succeed and keeping a healthy population of staff online is important. The Host, Lead Dev, or a head admin should be able to delegate handling ahelp so they can attend to more important matters.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Alert both involved parties to stop what there doing so I can gather more detailed information on the situation without it changing on me. First head over the the claimed raiders and determine if they are actually raiding a starter station. If I discern that they are then they are guilty of breaking server rules;attacking a starter station is forbidden. Record the incident in the notes those involved. The appropriate punishment depends on their already existing notes and attitude when told they had broken server rules

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Kidnapping and extorting someone can be used as reason to kill their captor. However details are important. If the captor undid the damage his extortion caused for example returning stolen money then the killer would have little motive to continue their actions. If the extortion damage not repaired killing him for revenge killing is still a stretch but with other things to show for it like an attempt to have him arrested yet to see the charges dropped can lead to a justifiable reason to revenge kill him, or an attempt to first force him to repair damage caused by extortion before deciding to kill him.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A:see what the accused it currently doing and confront him about what he reportedly done. I open with "So your blowing up stations and venting them huh" not because I already think he's guilty but because having him think I find him guilty he will either own up to it assuming I saw him do it and there's no avoiding it or he'll try to talk his way out of it and I'll have to continue the investigation to discern if he was the griefer. If he is innocent he'll simply say he didn't and Id have to confirm that by investigating further. admin/mod commands I don't remember anymore besides the very simple ones, but Im eager to relearn them again.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A:If a fight was apart of the situation, using commands like damage history on a mob I might find minor flaws in their stories and use that to pressure some more truth out of someone. If they still stick with there original story and I have exhausted all the admin/mod tools available to me including interviewing people who could have seen parts of the incident I'd have to resign to repairing damage on both sides since I cannot discern the truth.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A:venting from environmental causes like the slugs breaking the window is a IC occurrence. I tell him to patiently wait for medbay staff to rescue his corpse and clone him. If it was caused from a griefer reviving him is okay.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A:Explain to the person how that is not the case, if he cant understand why I'll explain the difference in play styles how a person could be allowed to do something similar for RP reasons.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A:If there's a jail function available I'll use that to contain him and contact him again. If not kick him to get his attention and await his return. If he does and continues what he was doing a ban is appropriate.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A:When I first read this question I didn’t know how to do that but later found out so here is my edited answer. If staff is flooded with ahelps currently I'd ignore him but if its a incident free day I'd answer his question. Click on a piece of paper with duct tape on your active hand.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A:Ask them for a detailed recounting of how he managed to die in isolation without anyone being around to see it. Reasoning that if he was that isolated its easier to tell him "Your out of luck I cannot revive you with nothing to go on" since it would be very unlikely anyone would stumble upon him and revive him.

What is your Byond key?

How long have you been playing on Persistence?
I've been playing since parasistence, but went into hiatus until it was fleshed out enough on the new code.

What are the names of your better-known characters?
Adam Haywood

About The Species

What alien species are you applying for?

Phorsian

Why do you want to play as the alien species?

I've been following this alien species since Parasistence, and when we shifted to the new code I desperately wanted to play the species. But, unfortunately at the time off when we shifted to the new code we did not have it implemented. I wish to use this as a way to bring diversity to the station and tackle some diverse issue among some of the crewmen that have disdain for those that suffer some disease. That way I can try and reason with them.

What are some example names for the alien species?

Unfortunately, there really is no noteworthy examples I can provide aside that most victims from PRS usually keep their original names so long as they can remember them. If they do not they grasp at what they had found comforting, or what they remembered during their time in recovery.

Summarize what you know about the species.

Phorosians are a sub-type of humans suffering after long-term exposure to phoron gas,  causing deposits to develop in their bones. They lack any proper skin replaced with deposits of Phoron dotting their muscular frame. The disease they suffer from is called Phoron Restructurant Syndrome. They must be confined to a hermetically sealed suit to prevent exposure to an oxygen enriched enviroment lest they burst into flames.

"Name, Name...Ah, here we are. Eliot Fletcher, do you know why you're in cuffs?" The officer spoke as he sat across from the Phorosian. "Because, I murdered my colleauge?"He said quietly trying to hide the guilt of what he did. The officer placing the employees file onto the metal table opening it up. "And, what provoked this random bout of aggression, hm?"The officer asked looking over the documents displaying Eliot's place of birth of a station orbiting Saturn's moon, Titan. "Do you have an answer for me, or not?"The officer said pressing him for answer, sliding one of the crime scene photos in front of him, the picture displayed a scene of a drill lodged into the dead miners lower torso, sticking straight up. Eliot cocked his head looking at the one way mirror to him he still seemed human, fair white skin with a short tight hair cut for his dark brown hair. While still adorned in his mining void suit. He looked back over to the officer. The officer got up leaving the convict alone in the room, speaking to his superior on the other side the converse in deciding the poor phorsians fate. The officer steps back in offering an ultimatum "I do hope you understand, and now I require a further indulgence on your part. I cannot close my report until every loose end has been tied up. Quite so, my employers have told me to offer you a chance to work for your freedom, or we put you behind bars." The officer said in a monotone voice with noticeable inflictions to certain words as though they were stilted, obviously Eliot chose the better half of the deal,
