  EmmaJ Admin Application
Posted by: EmmaJ - 09-02-2018, 01:53 PM - Forum: Denied - Replies (1)

BYOND Key: EmmaJ
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: GMT -5 (Houston, Texas)
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Emma Jones, Alec Sadler.
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: My first account was created Nov 11, 2014.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: 3 years, 9 month, and 22 days.

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): Mentor on Hippie Station for a few months. Owner of a server awhile back but it was a lowpop test server for custom things.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): Hippie Station, abusive discord use in NSFW channel, a collaborative google drive of NSFW content was then filled with *explicit* things and I was subjected to a Discord, Server, and Forums ban.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: I really think the server just doesn't have enough story telling. In a sense of events, nothing big really happens around the station. I would find it very interesting if certain styles of events happened around the station such as but not limited to, traders, visitors, tourists, and perhaps investors to help very lucky small timers with businesses get a bit of a boost. I think these things should be admin prepared, led, and executed to provide a fun narrative for the station and not making labor so menial by giving the crew something unexpected for a change.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: This being apart of an IC incident, I would continue to allow this person to RP it out, however I would Aghost him to monitor whether of not his behaviors are extreme or over the top. If found to be so, question him directly about specific things found to be in the 'grief' area of behavior. If not, let him go about his business or perhaps tell him to reel it in a little bit and not go 'overboard'

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I would check on the event in the logs to make sure some form of fluid RP was happening in game and not a straight murder. While also extending the search to cover the previous encounter if possible. I would want to make sure that no meta grudge is being held and that both characters are acting to a reasonable level in game.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: An immediate aghost to observe the current actions of this person, monitoring whether or not they are indeed playing fairly to an extent. Most of these situations do end up being either very aggressive player on player griefing. If observed to be that I would prevent any more actions from this person by freezing them, while following up with a quick in-depth interrogation to see if his actions were in any way justified or perhaps were unprovoked.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: First things first would be to check the logs to see what specifically happened, while also taking into consideration who I got each individual story from as their might be a group playing that may be twisting crucial details to a specific side. After observing the logs of the incident I would ask the involved persons whether or not they have any more information that they may have not told me or remembered. After careful consideration for the multiple aspects of the incident I would then make my decision on what had happened and what the truth was in both parts.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: If this is the main arrivals area on the station I would of course try and assist them by not allowing their character to immediately die. It would be unfair not only to them but any new players joining the server. If this is a personal cryo room, and the problem did in fact come from a malfunction that was their own fault in infrastructure. I would simply try and make sure they are known to be dead through IC means and trying my best to assist them with returning in a reasonable manner.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: I would strongly inform this person that he is abusing a help line meant for reporting people who have actually broke rules. If a form of mute is able to be done (To prevent him from future ahelps for a set time) I would proceed to do so; but only after a clear warning. If after some time this behavior persists I would proceed with a kick to let them know i'm serious and explain that if this abuse keeps up or if they take 'matters' into their own hands against the person they are reporting; Then I would proceed to ban them for a set amount of time.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: This player is obviously present at keyboard and is ruining the station intentionally, I would freeze them immediately and then ask them to respond to me within a certain (short) amount of time. If they fail to do so they will be kicked as a warning to end the behavior. If they rejoin and continue a permanent ban would be issued after a conclusion from other available admins that a perma would be the way to go. If they leave after being frozen then I would also proceed with a ban but at most a week ban.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: A quick explanation that admin helps should be used not for an in game mechanic question. But only if you have a serious problem that you think an /admin/ should help you handle. I would recommend them to the discord server or to OOC (If it's not muted Tongue)

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: As an admin I can't fully bring a character back without any evidence they even existed. I would recommend to them that starting a new character would be the best course of action and through in game means I may show a *little* mercy and maybe throw them some new clothes and dosh. (Cash)

Bug "ok wow" (greentext)
Posted by: MarkKen - 08-28-2018, 09:09 PM - Forum: General Discussions - No Replies

Heya! After browsing through the general discussions, I saw someone post a greentext. Thought it'd be fun to do one as well.

>Be........ me. Mark Ken, a Medical Specialist Doctor Chemist Specialist Supervisor.
>Order some Chemistry stuff, y'know, cartridges, drugs..
>Actually be a responsible MS, or Chemist and make some medicine - not grenades and dangerous acids that somehow don't melt the glass beaker.
>Someone notices, reports it on radio.
>aww ty <3 <3 <3
>Someone with three names joins, with an administrator ID. I was about to enter cryo, though he noticed me.
>u, me, sex
>Greets me, asks me if I want a promotion.
>Accept graciously.
>I'm now a Station Director, with the custom assignment of Medical Director. WHAAAAA.
>Went to cryo for real, dumbass me not realizing cryo is bugged.
>Go back one day later, map reverted but somehow when I print a new ID, my rank is still there. Devalidate the other old Chemist ID.
>Go order a bunch of stuff, which is a CMO locker (THAT I PAID FOR)
>Quit Medbay for a bit, viral pathogen spreading like everywhere. Not my fault, Medbay is lacking stuff.
>Help 200 people get assigned, or not because I've never done this before and I'm scared to assign them to a private department or a closed branch.
>Eyes-No-Eyes, aka some kind of intern joins.
>Pretends I've been busting my ass off working, ask him if he can take over.
>Go do some paperwork, as the intern suggested paperwork for people waiting in line to choose a branch.
>Finally finish the paperwork, 3 failed copies into the shredder.
>junior commander joins
>Ask her about the paperwork, says it's fine but I gotta remove some shit or something like that.
>Notices I'm a station director
>"Oh, you're a station director?"
>"That's medical director for you!"
>"That's not what a station director does."
>Gets confused, "what in tarnation" she says.
>ok
>She tells me to follow her, asks a security officer to interview me in order to figure out who ranked me. Again, someone with 3 names.
>had to go for 10 minutes.
>I get back on quickly, apparently I'm in a glass cell now. See another prisoner in a real cell, guess they're not actually charging me. Hooray for me.
>I mean, why would they charge me anyway? It's not my fault I got promoted.
>Don't remember what happens, but instead of getting ranked back to a Specialist Specialist Doctor Medical Supervisor, I got ranked back to Chemist.
>Don't care, at least I'm still working in the medical branch, yes?
>end

In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: I'd say around 11 AM-12 PM. My timezone is GMT+2; so for me it'd be 1-2 PM.
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Mark Ken
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: April 2018. I believe I have an old alt account from 2016-2017, however.
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: April 2018, so 4-5 months!

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): None at all, although I've been messing around on my own servers that I cannot host.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): Job ban on Colonial Marines! I was job banned from PO due to a fight with another PO about who gets to control the ship; as I went SSD for like 3 minutes.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: Right now? It's how the server isn't up at 11 AM-12 PM most of the time! Today there was an administrative lock instead; it's better to keep that there. If I get accepted for a staff position, I'll make sure to be on the server at least 6 to 10 hours a day; due to the humongous amounts of free time on my hands. Other than that, it's absolutely perfect. Some bugs can be removed, although that's not something I can work with as I'm not a developer.  Big Grin

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Well, there's no real way to tell it's an organized faction raid; other than your handy-dandy tool - which is logs! I'd use the logs to figure out if the raid was actually organized by that faction. If it is, then I'd explain to the individual how he is not breaking any rules. If it is not organized, then I will question him about it.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: Remember the logs? I'd use that to investigate what actually happened. If the killer recieved massive brain damage; which makes him forget about the events leading to his kidnapping etc, I would talk to him about how he's took massive brain damage. Then, I'd check his warns/bans in order to see if he has a history of doing this. If he does, I'll punish him accordingly. If he doesn't, then I'll give him a warn. However, if he didn't take the brain damage - I will check how long ago the kidnapping occurred. If it happened more than 24 hours ago, I will message the killer that he actually needed to roleplay the killing. If not, I will instead message the kidnapper, explaining that the murder was fair.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: This is basically the same as the starter station situation. I'd check if the "griefer" is part of a faction. If he is, check if the raiding/bombing was planned! If it wasn't planned, check if he had done this before, and punish him accordingly. If he isn't part of a faction, then I'd question him about it. Though, obviously you can't just bomb a station; so I'll punish him accordingly with the logs again.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: Logs, again. What a handy tool indeed. I'll finish interviewing each member (this depends on what situation it is) and then I'll look at the logs in order to see which story makes the most sense. I believe I can spot a liar quite easily by the "tone" of the text and if they put too much detail in their story that normally a person would forget. I'd cross out the lying stories using my tactic and the logs, and the story that makes the most sense will be checked. Again, this depends on what kind of situation this is.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: Yeah, logs again.. Knew it'd come to this!  Smile  I'll check the logs to see if anyone vented the room. If someone did, I'll wait for them to join (I'll make a list of people I have to question) but meanwhile I will revive them while watching them if I have the chance. If they don't join, I'll punish them accordingly by checking their history.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: Tell them how the other individual is not breaking any rules, although I'd question them /which/ rules they're mentioning. There's quite a lot, frankly. I'd check the logs to see if they've done anything that would break the rules even a little bit. If there's none, I'll just close the ticket. Oh, and they can't spam adminhelp. I'm going to check their history and punish them accordingly.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: Freeze the player. If they leave, check their history and punish them accordingly. However, I don't think vandalizing is actually bannable?

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: grab duct tape, press paper, boom. I'm not a professional at that; so I will have to try it first. When I finally figure it out, I'll tell them how to do it and close the ticket. If I can't do it, I'll check the wiki if it's even possible. If it ain't, then I'll tell them that they can't do it and close the ticket.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: I'd ask them if they have any witnesses. Due to the lack of logs, I can't really do anything if they don't - I'd just try to use psychology on them although that's not a valid way to believe them.

Hi there, I'm RemBestWaifu in the Persistent discord and I've been here for a couple of months, having fun with the people that like the server too. It has been a good time since I have arrived and the roleplay that I've seen has been good with every person contributing to the history of the universe with every action they take affecting them and others, just like a book. Hope y'all are having a fun time while playing too.

In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: UTC 6 to UTC 11 on weekdays, whenever on Weekends
Names of your current and past Persistent characters: Tex Firehold, Alana (or Alaya) Volanzi
How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Probably mid 2017
How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: I played it the time it was up before august

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): Bad Deathclaw Admin, basically from just before it got popular to now. Fallout Outcasts Admin, admined it when it was getting like 90 players. Admin for Unoffical Interbay Darkholmes Dungeon, a short lived Interbay server.

Are you currently banned from any SS13 servers? (Please state where and for what reason if you are): No

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: Lack of staff hours in lowpop hours, which is the only time i can play on weekdays really.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q: An adminhelp comes in claiming that an individual is griefing a starter station, but the individual is taking part in an organized faction raid. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I'd watch the guy for a bit and check his saylogs, along with other members of his factions saylogs, to make sure there was actually a raid happening, if there was i would reply to the person that he wasen't breaking any rules. If he was, i would ahelp him asking him why hes griefing, cant really see a good response to that so i would probably ban him.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed by another player, claiming that the killer was not RPing and wasn't acting correctly, but the individual had previously kidnapped the killer and tied them to a chair in order to extort them. How do you deal with the situation?
A: I'd read the logs, figure out what happened, depending on what happened i would either tell the person ahelping that he was perfectly within rules or message the killer that its a big thing to kill somebody, and that he should correctly roleplay it, however, I personally wouldn't ban him for that just add to his notes for future reference incase he does it again.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who claims that a griefer blew up part of their station and vented it. How do you handle the situation?
A: Figure out who blew it up, and try and see if it was an organized raid by another faction, if not i would ask the guy why he did it and if it was a sufficient answer, which it probably wouldn't be, i would tell him to try and hold off the explosives. If not i would probably temp-ban him and add it to there notes.

Q: When interviewing several individuals after an incident, each of them have a different story about what happened. How do you find the truth?
A: Read logs. In my experience attack logs and say logs reveal the most about what two players are saying. If not try and bait them into saying something that will go against logs, for example who attacked first and then read attack logs, to find out who the innocent person is.

Q: An adminhelp comes in from an individual who had been killed due to their cryo room being vented. How do you proceed?
A: Figure out who vented the room, adminpm them, that would probably be a permaban.

Q: You are receiving several adminhelps from one person, claiming that another individual is breaking the rules, but the individual has not breached any rules. How do you handle this?
A: Explain to the person why the other person hasen't broken any rules.

Q: A player joins the round and immediately begins vandalizing the current station while evading security. You attempt to contact them, but get no response. How do you handle the situation?
A: If they aren't responding to me they obviously just want to break the rules, i would permaban them.

Q: A player adminhelps, and asks how to put duct tape on a piece of paper. How do you handle the situation?
A: I would inform the player to read the wiki and see if you can, as i don't even know how to do that.

Q: A player claims that they were killed and their lace was lost during a restart. No one else can back up this claim, and logs are unavailable. How do you handle the situation?
A: If nobody else can back up that claim, they are very probably lying, as majority of time there are alot of people around you on persistence, so i would decline giving them a new one or restoring things.

Hallo. I'm Charlie, but you can call me ZeroBits, Zero, Bits, or "that guy that broke all of the air tanks." I've been around for a bit, but never really got around to making one of these things. I develop a lot of stuff for this server, and before that, I developed a lot of stuff for Bay and acted as the manager of their staff team.

I like this server, and want to help it become a more enjoyable place with fewer bugs, better features, and a more vibrant community.

In UTC, what time range do you usually play in?: Usually from 8:00 PM UTC to 3:00 AM UTC is when I'm the most active, with more activity during the weekends.
Names of characters you play in Persistent: Madeline Heirena and Yukimori Nanami.

How long have you been playing Space Station 13: Since November of 2017.

How long have you been playing Persistent Station 13: Around early December of 2017.

In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it?: The current lack of free staff members who are able to staff the server during late hours and sometimes during Hub hours,
I'll first go about fixing this problem by being active throughout the day and sometimes during late hours.

Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have): No, I have never been a staff member for any Space Station 13 server.

Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

Q:An adminhelp comes in claiming an individual is griefing, the individual also happens to be a traitor.

A: I'd first follow the "griefer" in ghost mode observing their style of playing the role of traitor, while also observing the logs for any griefing behavior. If everything checks out, then I'd politely reply to the ahelp explaining how the traitor hasn't broken any rules pertaining to the server.
If the Traitor has indeed been doing griefy and generally shitty actions, then I'll send a message to griefer with a warning to get them to discontinue their behavior, and if they continue, I'll kick them from the server and a ban if they continue after that.

Q
:A player is upset about another player's reaction to something they did, but they are clearly in the wrong. How would you handle this?

A: I'd first attempt to explain to the player how they were in the wrong politely, and if they're still upset, I'd contact the other player to figure out some sort of compromise that would work in the favor of both players, and if that's impossible, then the upset player would just have to deal with it.

Q
:When interviewing several individuals, one is lying but you cannot tell who it is. How would you proceed?

A: I'd finish interviewing all of the player accounts, and cross reference them with the responses given by the other interviewers, after that, I'd check the logs for any discrepancies from the player accounts and hopefully find the lier there.

Q
:You are receiving multiple inquiries about an individual who has not breached any rules, from one person. How would you handle this?

A: I'd politely explain to the upset individual how, despite of their annoyed attitude toward the player's style of play, that they haven't broken any rules that pertain to Persistence 13 itself, and to ask the upset individual to stop sending more ahelps about the same problem.

Q:A player joins the round and is vandalizing the ship/station while evading security. You attempt to ModPM them but get no response. What form of action would you take to get them to stop?

A: I'll first send them a ModPM warning them to cease their behavior or risk a kick from the server, and if they continue, I'll kick them from the server, it should be enough time for Security to retrieve the player and send them to the brig, and if that's not the case and the same player
comes back to do the exact same behavior, then I'll simply ban them.

People should be able to ICly know they can't leave the Frontier.
Posted by: Cencere - 05-10-2018, 03:43 AM - Forum: Lore Suggestions - Replies (4)

Why would they do that, imagine that, imagine that they ferry 100+ people into a new place, without their family, without means to use pay outside of the Frontier as they thought, and any life they had outside is now dead, they are effectively dead to everyone they've known since communication to the outside is prohibitive. They tell their Commanders to tell everyone to work, and create new regulations for the new environment, and don't contact them again?

What you'd expect to happen is people being angry, hateful, and confused. Instead what would happen is people would be confused, apathetic, and even more confused. It degrades meaning from the backstory, by all accounts the entire structure of order should become strained and even collapse if this info were to be made public without people ever becoming first aware of it. I don't see how the implications of this would ever be properly handled as it should in-character, everyone is playing the server to be here. It would be awkward for the majority of players to either tear up done work, or just casually accept what would be the most pivotal moment in their character's entire lives with passive indifference.

Why send people to operate a dangerous task that are unaware of the dangers? Considering that the Vox gave the means for Nanotrasen to get into Frontier, they would callously risk the entire operation by sending employees at near random, instead of selecting through millions of potential volunteers due to their size of NT's operations? The card of corporate indifference, cruelty, and callousness has played a few hands in some of the other HRP servers, and overplayed all too often in LRP. I don't see what place it has here, this doesn't seem indifferent or calculating, but simply careless to the situations it would develop, which it would not solely for OOC reasons.

If there is no other explanation as to why NT would not tell people, it doesn't hold-up to anything. This is not explained besides "no one would ever volunteer to be sent into the Frontier, it'd be empty". I don't think this is true, in fact, with the way the Human Lore is coming out, I would argue it would mean much more people would want to go to the Frontier if they knew you could not leave. The Terran-SolGov War is happening, why would anyone escape to this area, specifically, if they would think that the Terrans were going to come and desolate the place like so many other colonies around them? The fact that the entire Frontier is insulated from outside ships and interference would cause people to want to come in far greater numbers than if there was no information on a Barrier.

I recognize it doesn't explain how new players join, and don't even know what a barrier is. That's what they are though, new players, and it doesn't explain people who know what they're doing being made to also not recognize such either. I also want to re-iterate that I don't mean just inside the Frontier people know they can't leave, but that the information they couldn't leave was available to them outside the Frontier as well before entering.

  Dionaea Lore
Posted by: simfantic - 05-04-2018, 09:02 PM - Forum: Lore Suggestions - Replies (2)

Description: Humanoid, roughly the same height, depends on how many diona nymphs it contains. Neuters, meaning without a gender. They have a very plant like anatomy, made of biological matter that fits perfectly to form humanoid forms after absorbing enough biological matter. In rustic form, a dionaea looks very similar to a tree, but it includes limbs such as arms and legs. Most Dionaea do not differ in looks,

Temperament: Depending on the area where the dionaea was gestated, they have vast personalities. Dionaea from a very sparse jungle planet could be very icontrolled and quiet due to having so many biological matter around at all times. While one of a non-fauna planet could leave them quite  violent and cold, as there is little to no biological matter, it was left to absorbing other gestalts to gain biological matter.

Local Ecology: Dionaea do not have a specified home planet where they came from. Dionaea seeds could have found themselves on a rock speeding through space which eventually allowed them to grow as the rock hit a planet. Dionaea have spread far and wide, not much is known about them except their extraordinary grasp of learning when given enough time. They use the genetic make-up of a biological matter in order to obtain its knowledge. They have shown remarkable ability to withstand radiation as well as have no need for oxygen or a voidsuit, although it seems they do require light or they will perish rather quickly.

Society: As previously stated, dionaea did not have a specified home planet, often the species was cast all across the universe, drawing biological matter and making themselves learn and grow as a community. Dionaea pods [the way dionaea are 'born'] can grow in almost any condition, but the more resources it can obtain the less time it requires in order to produce a nymph/s. Sometimes it can take centuries for a pod to gorw a nymph if resources arnt near the growing location.

Dionaea grew and flourished on almost all planets, often overtaking sentience species due to their advanced anatomy allowing them to reach ages humans could only fathom. Dionaea could be alive in the universe for 5 centuries and still have 5 more to go. Dionaea often saw species become extinct and evolve around them.

History:  In the early 23rd Century, a colony ship to a planet habitual to humans crashed aboard the surface, many might have survived but by the time the rescue ship came a few decades later the survivors had already perished. Instead they uncovered the colonisation ship infested with vines, and pods ready to gestate into nymphs. The rescue ship took some samples for research and returned. While on the way back the pods gorged out an alien species previously unknown to any species. Scientists were fascinated and began documenting it. Each and everything the creature did was calculated, tested and experimented on in order to see what exactly it was.

After years of researching scientists finally deduced what and how the dionaea was made. They returned to the planet to find a 'colony' of dionaea in thew ruins of the ship using it as a safe haven from the hostile insect environment. Researchers took this oppurtunity to stay, to document and study even more. Decades later the research had been completed and they began intergrating the dionaea into society in order to make them useful.

Three centuries later, dionaea are now often seen in public, as they were mingled into society. Depending on the location of the dionaeas gestalt would exhibit different personality traits. Most dionaea are skilled engineers or doctors due to their anatomy. What might take years for someone to study a field, dionaea can take hours. Its just a matter of time before one shows up to the frontier...
