  Energysurg's application
Posted by: Energysurg - 12-20-2017, 07:32 AM - Forum: Denied - No Replies

BYOND Key: Energysurg
In UTC, what time range do you usually play in? 2200- 0700 ish. Largely depends on school and work
Names of characters you play in BS12 Alex Wesley, damian monatsa, she who speaks
How long have you been playing Space Station 13 1.5-2 years
How long have you been playing Baystation 12 1-2 months
In your opinion, what’s the biggest problem with the server right now, and what would you do to help resolve it? Bay transition, lack of HoP ; I am currently learning how to code on byond, and could watch server while admins and other staff are coding/not on server (christmas donation)
Have you ever been a staff member for any SS13 servers? (Please state where and how long if you have). No
Answer the following scenarios and how you would deal with them to the best of your ability.

  • An adminhelp comes in claiming an individual is griefing, the individual also happens to be a traitor. I would investigate the claims seriously. If the traitor is found to be killing for no reason or another equivalent, then i would bwoink them and tell them to cut the shit. Make a note about it. Then job ban if the problem persists. If the traitor is not griefing, then i would tell the person that what the traitor was doing is valid
  • A player is upset about another player's reaction to something they did, but they are clearly in the wrong. How would you handle this? If it's a ooc matter, then i would bwoink both and figure out what happened, intents, motives, what have you. Then review any logs and tell the person that was in the wrong to cool it. Make a note of it if the problem persists.
  • When interviewing several individuals, one is lying but you cannot tell who it is. How would you proceed? Review the logs. The logs cannot lie.
  • You are receiving multiple inquiries about an individual who has not breached any rules, from one person. How would you handle this? Inform them the player has not broken any rules. If they persist, make a note about it and if they persist after persisting, ask the player in question if they know the other player.
  • A player joins the round and is vandalizing the ship/station while evading security. You attempt to ModPM them but get no response. What form of action would you take to get them to stop? Forced sleep (if you can do that) or spawn a ton of tazer turrets and delete them after a nice long chat. Definitely make a note of it, and inform an admin.

The result of Phoron Restructurant Syndrome, this "species" are walking examples of what happens when one gets too careless around phoron.

The standard Phorosian is a humanoid afflicted with Phoron Restructurant Syndrome (PRS). This severely changes the way the victims body operates, becoming dependant on phoron to survive.

Phorosians lack proper skin, instead having patches of phoron covering their exposed muscular system. Their crystallized eyes glow (However none reported any improvement on their eyesight or ability to see in the dark), their organs held in a sac of phoronified tissue in their abdomen and chest.

What is the cause of Phoron Restructurant Syndrome?

PRS is caused by long term exposure to low traces of phoron, which leads to deposits of it forming in the bones of the exposed individual. Due to this, trace amounts of phoron is distributed throughout the body by blood cells produced by the poisoned bone marrow. Ordinarily this results in the body being slowly poisoned from the inside out as the phoron deposits grow, causing organ failure and death. However, if the afflicted individual is caught in a phoron based fire, the pressure and heat can cause a chain reaction if they are beyond a certain threshold, replacing the carbon compounds in the victims body with phoron from the air. With prompt medical attention and sequestration to a controlled environment, the victim can survive, though irreversibly changed from the process.

What are the effects of it?

Dependence on phoron: Phorosians require a constant supply of phoron gas to fuel their body. How exactly this works requires further exploration, though it is presumed that phoron taken in from the lungs is concentrated and sent into the bloodstream, being filtered by the liver and pumped through the body.

Immunity to toxins and viruses: Due to their physiology now encompassing an extremely toxic substance, this has given those afflicted with PRS a natural immunity to toxins. This has the side effect of administered anti-toxin instead confusing their body, causing it to break itself down.

Immunity to viruses: The drastic change to their biological makeup has granted them immunity to nearly all common viruses, the viruses being incompatible with their bodies.

Burning in oxygen: phoron is a highly flammable substance when exposed to oxygen and Phorosians are no different. When in an oxygen atmosphere the concentrated phoron they are made of starts to burn away, similar to the effects of being submerged in acid. As such, Phorosians are confined to a protective suit to keep their volatile bodies safe. Breathing in oxygen has the same effect, directly burning the lungs.

Tissue degeneration: Due to the effects of PRS Phorosians suffer from tissue degeneration. The skin is burnt off, leaving their muscles and ligaments to hold them together. The nerves are destroyed, leaving them with the inability to feel pain. They are notably weaker than most other races and need many months of therapy to relearn fine motor control.

Organ system: A Phorosians organ system generally remain the same as it was before, with a few differences. Organs in the abdominal and thoracic cavities are held in a sac of phoronified tissue with a majority of the digestive system atrophied due to the lack of need for it. Their blood shows similarities to a mix of blood plasma and a form of liquid phoron.
Their brain has been affected by a crystallization process, commonly damaging the victims memory.

The Containment Suit

A Phorosian Containment Suit is similar in design to a standard space suit, albeit with a few differences with long term wear in mind. They usually follow the job jumpsuit coloring scheme for identification, and can be compared with the voidsuits of the job. As well, the suit is equipped with multiple access ports around the suit to allow for medical treatment and surgery with limited exposure to the atmosphere. As well, the suit contains a filtration system to filter out the excess and waste phoron produced by the Phorosian. Though it is effective, it is not 100% efficient and can cause phoron buildup in unventilated areas.

As PRS affects many sapient races it is common that the overall behavior of the afflicted individual will not change, retaining their beliefs and culture. However, the combined mental and physical trauma of the transformation can cause a multitude of behavioral changes. A few such examples include a phobia/obsession with fire, Mockingbird delusion (The belief that they are a normal example of their species, becoming aggressive if they're shown that they are not), and other various mental illnesses or instability.

It is common that victims of PRS keep their names. However, those who forgot their names, or decide on a new one will commonly choose something that they became quite familiar with during their recovery.

In the workplace

Common areas of work for Phorosians are jobs with a lot of EVA work (such as mining, engineering, search and rescue, exploring etc.) and areas where sterility or protection from various chemical and biological threats are important (medical, science). It is more uncommon to see them in security based jobs due to a higher chance of a suit breach occuring.

While the containment suits they wear filter a majority of the waste phoron they exhale, as said above they aren't completely efficient. In ventilated areas the exhaled phoron isn't enough to be a problem, however it can build up in unventilated areas. Anyone who has a Phorosian co-worker are advised to regularly get tested for phoron poisoning.

In game mechanics
Breathes Phoron
Immune to toxin damage, viruses
Oxygen restoring drugs burn them, Anti toxin drugs harm them
Takes burn damage if in contact with oxygenated environment (Suit breaches included)
Lungs take burn damage directly if they inhale oxygen
Liquid phoron acts like Tricordrazine and iron (helps regenerate blood, heals them)
Does not feel pain
Does not need to eat
Takes 70% brute damage and 150% burn damage
